PROJECT DESCRIPTION
INITIAL BRIEF
The initial proposal consisted of an irregular shape (to match the garden shape) single storey rear house extension with a slight wrap around to open up the lounge area, alongside significant internal remodelling. This was purpose driven, creating an open plan living / kitchen / dining area, utility/boot room, and larder store room.
The design options were looking into some interesting ideas like flat roofs with a lantern or flat glass roof lights. This would all maintain a good visual connection to the garden by utilising tall windows and folding doors which extend down the side of the existing house to bring in lots of light
Construction
The groundworks were reasonably straight forward and a full drainage survey was done so that we knew exactly what was in the ground. The complications came with the steel construction and knocking through, as there was a lot of structural wall to remove and support to get the openness and light the client needed.
We overcame all of these bumps and provided on-site design solutions to the client to get the very best result. The architect’s design was excellent but we had to do a lot of technical design to make the lavish finish work to robust building methods.
The Finish
The finish is nothing short of jaw-dropping and worth every inch of head-scratching to apply the design to a good physical build. Inside and out this modern sleek extension is adventurous and finished with modern quality which the owners will love for years to come.
