PROJECT DESCRIPTION
INITIAL BRIEF
The client wanted a dormer loft conversion to create a master bedroom and ensuite, keeping the boiler in place. To explore options for stairs with as little disruption to the ground floor, ideally from the rear bedroom. we installed Velux at the front and rear box dormer to the rear.
Existing property
The 1930s semi-detached bungalow had good height on the roof however it was hipped to the side ends which left awkward valleys and diminishing valleys in all directions.
Construction
There were a lot of floor beams and internal load-bearing walls to be built to support the new roof, once they were in place it was a relatively straightforward project. There were some on-site design changes due to the pitches and valleys but all in all it ended up exactly as they wanted.
The Finish
There were good opportunities to upgrade throughout the project by adding French doors and forming a Juliet balcony, underfloor heating in the en-suite and changing the existing staircase to an oak one.
